Any way to avoid black vertical "side lines"?

Postby bigorangebox on Mon Apr 14, 2008 5:34 am

Hi folks --

Shot some test footage on my first weekend with the RNG35 on my Canon HV20. I noticed that when I switched on the vibrating motor I'd get black vertical lines/waves on the left and right sides of the image. I can't see these on the viewfinder of the HV20 when shooting, but they're there when I bring the footage into Final Cut Pro.

Here's the footage:

My solution thus far has been to blow the image up 110% in Final Cut Pro after capturing the footage. Anyone have a suggestion to avoid the "side lines" phenomenon on the camera or adapter?

This is a common problem with the HV20. What you see on the LCD is not exactly what the camcorder captures. You will need to frame it, then zoom in just a little bit more past that so you know you have cleared the black plastic screen holder.

Thanks! This worked like a charm. I backed off the zoom a bit on the HV20 and was able to get the full frame on tape via the camera. Bummer that the HV20 has this little annoyance -- otherwise a great camera.

Please help me!!

Dear Tracey,

Hi~, I'm a user of RNG35 V3, 72mm size.
I'd like to say thank you that I could have a great adapter.

Well, I got into some trouble.
My JVC GZ-HD7 camcorder was out of order, so I bought a Canon HV30.

But the 72mm RNG35 and HV30 are not matched.
When I have zoom in until the black frame of GG holder is disappeared,
the camcorder lose focus.
I don't want to scale up the screen size in editing program like Vegas or premiere,
for avoiding the screen quality down.

Please tell me the solution of this problem.
Do I have to eliminate the spacer rings, a heavy ahcromat
and buy a different achromat for HV30 from you?
Or is there another easy way?
The worst, I may sell the HV30 and buy a new HD7 again. :(

I will wait a good news from you.
Have a nice day~ :)

We are going to test a new glass this week that has a power of 10x instead of 7x like the current achromat. I will make it available for sale for those interested.

Dear Tracey,

Hi~, It's me, ggum2001 again. a user of RNG35 V3, 72mm size.
Congratulations on releasing brand new RNG35 V3.1.

Above, I asked you the solution of zoom focus problem for HV30
and you said that the new 10X achromat will be prepared soon.
So I have waited until the site update.
But news of 10X achromat is not there.

Any way, If the 10X achromat is solution...
(1) Can I buy it from you?
(2) If it is not possible from you, I will buy 10X achromat of Cine or Brevis. Can you recommend which one is fit for RNG35 V3 72mm and HV30?

Good luck, V3.1 :)

It is a different piece of glass. The large glass reacts differently to the HV30 so we are sending out a smaller achromat for that camera. It will be updated with that info soon.

Well. I have solved this problem myself with Opteka 58mm 10x macro lens.
(RNG35 v3 72mm + Opteka 10x macro lens + Canon HV30)
