I subscribe to the Ron Dexter school of thought when it comes to production gear. If you CAN make it yourself, you should. You learn more about what you are using and you usually save money. The rails and block are milled alluminum. The Lens clamp is off an old 300mm telephoto with tripod mount. The follow focus is using a $0.95 right angle gear box, $1.50 sproket, $3.00 chain, and misc aluminum bits. The knob is from an old TV set and the marking disc is a 4" grinder disc. It is simple and quick to set up and very smooth. I am also working on a mount for an external LCD. I found a widescreen portable DVD player at target on clearance for $100. It is a non-flip version so it is easy to mount... pics still forthcoming.

I love my V1u. The 24p makes the footage really clean. It doesn't do as well in low light as an FX1 or Z1U, but it is relatively cheap and very clean... now if I could just figure out a way of flipping the image on the viewfinder....
